“While our values remain the same, we now have a new look. Get ready for a journalism journey like never before… Experience the all-new DD News,” the headline read.
The new logo has been criticized online, with some users pointing out that it is saffron and that the move comes ahead of the election. Trinamool MP Jawhar Sircar, the former boss of Doordarshan’s parent organization, also said it was heart-wrenching to see Doordarshan’s logo “turning orange” before the elections.
“National broadcaster Doordarshan has painted its historic flagship logo in saffron! As its former CEO, I have always looked at its saffron with wariness and a feeling – it is no longer Prasar Bharati – but Prachar Bharati,” he posted online.
Mr. Sircar served as the Chief Executive Officer of Prasar Bharati, the statutory body that regulates Doordarshan and All India Radio, from 2012 to 2016.

– Just before the election!
It will influence the electorate by overlaying the colors of a single religion and Sangh co-ethnics with a “neutral” PBS and a biased government/regime! pic.twitter.com/g7m0PH9nMf— Jawhar Sircar (@jawharsircar) April 20, 2024
Outlining his objections in a video, he said, “It is highly inappropriate for the national broadcaster to choose the color saffron for its branding.” He also called the move a violation of the Model Code of Conduct, which is a pre-election rule to ensure that candidates A set of restrictions imposed to provide a level playing field.
However, the current owner of Prasar Bharati disagrees with Mr Sircar and believes that the move is in line with the visual aesthetics. He also insisted that the color be orange.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Gaurav Dwivedi said the use of bright, attractive colors is based on the brand and visual aesthetic of the channel. He also said that more than just the logo, the look and feel of the channel has also been upgraded, including new lighting and equipment.
