Donald Trump’s custom Lamborghini Diablo sells for five times estimated value at auction

rare 1997 Lamborghini A Diablo VT Roadster customized for former U.S. President Donald Trump nearly 30 years ago soared beyond expectations at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona, over the weekend.

The limited-edition car, one of 132 produced for the US market, is priced at a whopping $1.1 million (Rs. 91,355,000), five times its estimated value.

The lure of having Trump listed as the first owner in the car’s brochure sparked fierce bidding, with the final price far exceeding what car experts had predicted for this particular model.

Barrett-Jackson said the Diablo VT Roadster is part of Lamborghini’s tradition of naming cars after bullfights, paying homage to the legendary bull that fought the famous bullfighter El Chicorro in the 19th century.

According to Motor1.com, Trump personally commissioned the production of this Diablo VT Roadster in 1997 and chose the unique Le Mans Blue paint color seen on the vehicle today.

Although this color wasn’t originally offered for the ’97 model, Trump’s rapport with Lamborghini allowed him to gain approval for this unique hue.

This special Diablo VT Roadster therefore becomes the only vehicle of its kind in the 1997 series, making it a truly unparalleled one-of-a-kind creation.

The Diablo is powered by a mid-mounted 5.7-liter 48-valve V12 engine that produces 492 horsepower and 583 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm.

Equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive system, the Viscous Traction (VT) system ensures excellent traction, allowing the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 202 mph. .

This unique Lamborghini was ordered new by Trump and features personal touches not found on other models from the same year.

Included in the sale are manuals/books, two tool bags and a car cover.

The Diablo has changed hands twice since Trump sold it in 2002 and currently has only 15,431 miles on the clock. The auction house has not set a pre-sale guide price, but the value is based on figures from the last sale seven years ago. The current owner purchased the car in 2016 for $460,000 (Rs 30,883,740 at the time) in a transaction largely conducted on eBay, four months before Trump took office.

Interestingly, according to USA Today, on August 9, 2003, CARFAX records showed inconsistent mileage.
