Navi Mumbai police have registered two cases for allegedly attacking members of two families over dogs, an official said on Sunday.

He said the families were attacked at different locations in Nero on Saturday night and the victims were injured. In the first case, a family and several others in Mhatre got into an argument with a 24-year-old woman and her sister who were feeding stray dogs.

The defendants then broke into the women’s home and assaulted them and their family members. Police on Sunday registered a case against eight people under sections of the Indian Penal Code for assault or criminal violence on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.

In the second incident, five members of the Perve family got into a fight with a 65-year-old woman because her puppy was barking. Citing a case registered on Sunday, officials from Nirul police station said the accused forced his way into the complainant’s house, insulted her family members and then physically assaulted them.
