The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) match at the Eden Gardens was filled with controversy. In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 on Sunday, Virat Kohli’s delivery looked like a waist-high no-ball to the naked eye. While both referees and broadcasters justified the decision, the controversy has yet to die down. As fans came to terms with Kohli’s controversial dismissal, another video emerged from the match that showed the umpire giving RCB batsman Suyash Prabhudesai just 4 for six point. The video is from the 5th delivery of the match in the 17th over when Prabhudesai faced KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy with Dinesh Karthik at the non-striker end. Suyash hits the ball towards fine leg boundary. The referee gave signal number four, but fans thought the ball had crossed the line.

The ball SUYASH PRABHUDESSAI faced was number 6 and shockingly, the umpire didn’t even notice. The third referee made no comment and the referee clearly gave 4 points.

Controversy over the incident was abuzz on social media as RCB ended up losing by a slim margin of 1 run. If a close call situation arises and it is unclear whether the ball bounces before or after the rope, a third umpire recommendation is usually used. However, fans claimed that this behavior was not initiated by the referee on the field.
Therefore, this decision not only cost RCB 2 points but also the entire match.
What exactly happened during the incident?
In fact, the referee on the field did check the decision with a third referee, although the referral was quick. The third referee immediately pointed out that the ball bounced before the rope and therefore only awarded 4 points.
Earlier, even the commentators thought it was six points, but the official decision was just four points.
Match officials or the IPL management are yet to comment on the matter.
