Delhi Police cracks down on drunk driving, with highest number of violations in the region

In the first quarter of 2024, drunk driving cases surged in Delhi. According to the latest statistics released by the Delhi Traffic Police, there has been a sharp increase in the number of tickets issued in drunk driving cases. From January 1 to March 31, 6,591 violators were recorded, a significant increase from 5,384 in the previous year, and a significant jump from 333 in 2022.

Rajouri Garden recorded the highest number of challans at 333, followed by Samaypur Badli with 252 and Mehrauli with 240.

“This alarming trend highlights the urgent need to create awareness and strict enforcement of traffic laws to ensure public safety on city roads,” a statement from Delhi Traffic Police read.

In response to this alarming trend, Delhi Traffic Police has stepped up enforcement efforts. A special operation has been launched against drunk driving, with strict measures including increased inspections and breathalyzer testing being implemented.

“Drink-driving poses serious risks not only to the driver, but also to passengers, pedestrians and other motorists traveling on the same road.
