BJP's Tejaswini Gowda joins Congress ahead of Lok Sabha elections

Thirty days after resigning from the Karnataka Liberation Movement, the BJP’s Tejaswini Gowda on Saturday joined the Congress party and claimed that the saffron party does not believe in the Constitution and democratic values.

Tejaswin Gowda, who was a Congress MP from 2004 to 2009 and switched to the BJP in 2014, calls her return to the great old party her “homecoming”.

She was inducted into the Congress headquarters in the presence of party general secretary Jairam Ramesh and media and publicity minister Pawan Khera.

“We welcome Tejaswini Gowda, an active leader in Karnataka politics, to the Congress. We have full confidence that Tejaswini ji will remain active in the upcoming elections. Tejaswini, who was an MP from 2004 to 2009, has been active in various issues We are very happy to have her back in Congress,” Ramesh said.

Former journalist Tejaswini Gowda is also confident that the Congress will win 23 of the 28 seats in Karnataka in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

After joining the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014, Tejaswini Gowda was elected as a provincial councilor in 2018. She also served as the spokesperson of the saffron party. Her term as MLC will end in June 2024.

She was a member of the 14th Lok Sabha (2004-2009) in Kanakapura district. She won the seat (now Bangalore Rural) as a Congress candidate defeating JD(S)’s former prime minister HD Deve Gowda.
