Rampur/Moradabad, UP:
There was chaos in Rampur and Moradabad Lok Sabha constituencies as two Samajwadi Party candidates from the two seats filed their nominations today claiming to be the genuine candidates.
In Rampur, Asim Raja, who is contesting the 2022 Lok Sabha by-elections on a Samajwadi Party ticket, filed his nomination as the party’s candidate. Mohibulla Nadvi, the imam of a Delhi mosque, also made similar claims while filing his nomination.
Mr Naveen claims he is the party’s mandated candidate and has the support of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
While both men claim to be genuine candidates, the Socialist Party has yet to comment on them.
In Moradabad, Samajwadi Party leader Ruch Veera filed his nomination papers today, while sitting MP ST Hassan filed his nomination papers on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters, Ms. Vera claimed that she submitted her nomination as the Socialist Party candidate.
Farhrul Hasan Chand, the party’s spokesman, said the Socialist Party was a democratic party and there was no confusion. “Whoever the party leadership wants will participate in the elections,” he said, adding that the situation would be resolved in the evening.
Rampur and Moradabad will both go to polls in the first phase of elections on April 19, with Wednesday being the last date for filing nomination papers.
