Chief Justice of India: Mutual fraternity must safeguard national equality

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud today said mutual brotherhood is necessary to maintain equality in the country.

Addressing the state-level ‘Hamara Samvidhan Hamara Samman’ campaign in Bikaner, the CJI asked how the country will progress if people fight against each other.

“We should respect each other in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution,” he said.

Justice Chandrachud said, “Human dignity was paramount in the minds of the framers of our Constitution”.

“As Chairman of the Drafting Committee, Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar ensured that the Constitution promoted the values ​​of justice, freedom and equality as well as the spirit of fraternity and personal dignity,” he added.

The Chief Justice of India (CJI) said that many efforts are being made to improve the conditions in district courts.

“We want to create awareness about the district court as it is the first step towards justice. Many efforts are being made to improve the conditions of the district court and revamp its architecture to suit the modern era,” he added.

Highlighting the technological advancements over the years, the CJI said the potential of technology is also being used to spread legal awareness and legal services.

“The highest court in the country has always been committed to enhancing its capabilities through technology,” he added.

The CJI said that video conferencing hearings started a few years ago and many lawyers participated in the hearings and argued through video conferencing.

He said the judgment was being translated through technology and he was working to translate the judgment into more regional languages.

Union Minister of State for Law Arjun Ram Meghwal also addressed the program.
