New Delhi:
A special CBI court in Panchkula on Wednesday convicted four gang members in the infamous 2016 double murder and gang-rape incident in Nuh area of Haryana’s Mewat district, officials said.
They said the court convicted Hemant Chouhan, Ayan Chauhan, Vinay and Jai Bhagwan, all notorious Criminal, accused of multiple heinous crimes.
The court said the verdict will be pronounced on April 15.
They entered the victim’s home on the night of August 24 and 25, 2016, carrying lathes, iron bars and pistols.
Criminals gang-raped a woman and a minor at home. They then went on to loot decorations and cash.
“As a result of the attack, a male family member and his wife were killed and others were seriously injured. Haryana police conducted a preliminary investigation and filed a chargesheet in the case on November 21, 2016,” India Investigates a spokesman for the bureau said.
The CBI then took over the investigation on the advice of the Haryana government. During the course of the investigation, the agency collected scientific and forensic evidence such as DNA analysis and fingerprints.
CBI probe identified seven accused who did not appear in the chargesheet filed by Halayana police.
After meticulous investigation, the CBI filed two supplementary chargesheets on January 24, 2018 and November 29, 2019.
The spokesperson said that the special court filed the charges on March 15, 2021, taking into consideration the allegations leveled against the accused by the Haryana police and the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Of the seven accused brought before the Central Bureau of Investigation, four were convicted by a special court on Wednesday and three were acquitted. The accused cited by Haryana police were also acquitted.
