On the day of the IPL 2024 schedule announcement, a report by news agency PTI claimed that last season’s runners-up Gujarat Titans will not be getting the services of star fast bowler Mohammed Shami. The best bowler of the ODI World Cup 2023 with 24 wickets has been missing from the action since the prestigious event due to injury. He missed India’s tour of South Africa and the Test series against England at home and PTI reported that Mohammed Shami was struggling with pain during the World Cup as he was having trouble landing but he played down the impact of it on his Did not let it affect the performance.

“Shami was in London in the last week of January to get a special ankle injection and was told that after three weeks, he can start light running and then take it. But the injection is not working. And now the only option left is surgery. A senior BCCI source told news agency PTI on the condition of anonymity, “He will soon leave for the UK for surgery. The question of IPL does not arise.”

Shami, who was recently honored with the Arjuna Award, has taken 229 Test, 195 ODI and 24 T20 wickets in his decade-long career.

This development raises questions over the injury rehabilitation management program planned by the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for Shami.

Now there is little chance that the fast bowler will be able to make a comeback before India’s Test matches at home against Bangladesh and New Zealand (October November).

Their target could be the marquee away series against Australia.

People with knowledge of the matter believe that the NCA’s conservative thinking has not worked in Shami’s case.

“Shami should have gone straight for surgery and it should have been the NCA’s decision. Just two months of rest and injections doesn’t work well and that’s what happened. He is an asset and the Indian team will need him in Australia. ” The source said.
