Paris:

A bag containing a computer and two USB memory sticks containing police security plans for the Paris Olympics was stolen from a train at the capital’s Gare du Nord station on Monday night, police sources said on Tuesday.

Police said the bag belonged to an engineer at Paris City Hall and confirmed BFM TV’s report, adding that he had placed the bag in the luggage compartment above his seat.

As the train was delayed, he decided to change trains, which is when he discovered the theft.

The engineer said his work computer and two USB flash drives contained sensitive data, specifically city police plans to ensure security at the Games.

Regional traffic police are investigating.

Paris City Hall was not immediately available for comment when contacted by AFP.

2,000 municipal police will be deployed during the Games, with about 35,000 security personnel expected to be on duty every day at the Games, which opens on July 26.
