2024 BAFTA Winners: Oppenheimer is the grand winner of the 2024 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Film Awards, which were presented on Sunday at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England. The awards season favorite, directed by Christopher Nolan, led the nominees with 13 nominations and won seven awards, including director, actor and the coveted best picture. .

Nolan won his first Bafta, and in his acceptance speech expressed his gratitude to Universal Pictures for “allowing us to take on something dark and see the potential in it.”

Poor Thing was another standout winner at the ceremony, taking home five awards, including Best Actress for Emma Stone.

Watchmen star Da’Vine Joy Randolph continues to dominate the supporting actress category this awards season cycle. Randolph thanked her co-star Paul Giamatti as she accepted the BAFTA award, saying: “Oh my god, I cry every time I say your name. You represent everything that is great in our craft and beautiful things.”

Director Jonathan Glazer’s chilling Holocaust drama The Zone of Interest won the prestigious British Film Award for Outstanding Film as well as Best Non-English Film. Meanwhile, the “Barbie” movie, “Saltburn,” “Maison” and Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon” all left empty-handed on Sunday.

A number of film legends were also in attendance, including Tom Cruise (via video link) and Michael J. Fox, who presented the Best Film award. Prince William also attended the official ceremony after Catherine, Princess of Wales, was hospitalized and his father, King Charles, was diagnosed with cancer.

Following the BAFTA Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards (airing on Netflix on February 24) are the only other major awards event before the Oscars on March 10.

The BAFTA Awards were not broadcast live. It airs on BBC One in the UK and is available on BBC iPlayer and BritBox.
