A young man from Uttar Pradesh died during treatment in Kota while he was preparing for an entrance exam, two days after he had to be admitted to the city’s MBS Hospital due to high blood sugar and blood pressure, officials said on Sunday.

Shivam Raghav (21), a NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh district, has been preparing for the entrance exam in Kota for the past three years and is living in a hostel in Landmark City under Kunhari police station in Kota.

Sub-inspector of Kunhari police station Rajaram said the student had high blood sugar levels and blood pressure for the past six months and was admitted to MBS Hospital on Friday after his condition worsened. He added that Raghav’s condition continued to deteriorate in the hospital and he was later shifted to the intensive care unit where he died in the early hours of Sunday.

The police after post-mortem handed over the body to his family, who reached Kota after he was hospitalized. The police opened a case for investigation under Article 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

According to family members, Raghav passed the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) last year but failed to get admission in a government medical college.

This is the second such death of a student in Kota in the past four days. Earlier on Thursday, Parneet Raj Roy (18), a resident of Jamshedpur and a Class 12 student, passed away at MBS Hospital after his health deteriorated in the PG room. His father, Rajiv Ranjan Roy, who reached Kota to collect the body after the post-mortem examination, demanded an impartial inquiry to ascertain the exact cause of his son’s death.
