A report commissioned by Amazon Web Services found that more than a third of European businesses will adopt artificial intelligence by 2023, as the use of generative artificial intelligence surges.

The European Commission (the EU’s executive arm) presented its Digital Decade Vision 2030 in 2021, aiming to transform the region with basic digital skills for 80% of the population, ubiquitous 5G connectivity, and cloud use by 75% of EU companies Serve.

However, only a quarter of EU businesses will have adopted AI by 2022, and a report last year estimated that unless governments focus on closing the skills gap, the EU risks falling a decade behind its Digital Decade targets.

“Last year was a pivotal year; the accessibility of generative AI from Malmö to Milan spurred experimental interest among consumers and businesses,” AWS managing director Tanuja Randery told Reuters. “

“The accelerated adoption of artificial intelligence over the last year has put Europe on track to meet its Digital Decade goals,” she said.

A Strand Partners survey of more than 16,000 citizens and 14,000 businesses found that 38% of companies are experimenting with artificial intelligence.

The report estimates that the positive economic impact of AI will be an additional €600 billion on top of the previous estimate of €2.8 trillion.
