A teenager arrested by Mohave County authorities earlier this week admitted to deputies that a friend encouraged him to post on social media that he was going to “shoot up the school.” st george news the report said.

The teen also revealed he had no intention of committing the act, according to a news release from the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office.

The teen is being held at the Mohave County Juvenile Detention Facility for posing a third-degree terrorist threat, and although the threat appears to be an isolated incident, additional security measures and law enforcement personnel are planned at area schools, the new release added.

“The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office takes a zero-tolerance stance against anyone who threatens our schools or disrupts educational institutions,” the release said.

This follows a series of similar incidents in southern Utah that ended in pranks or “beatings.”

Earlier this month, the Washington County School District declared Snow Canyon Middle School and Snow Canyon High School safe after receiving an email from someone suggesting there was a bomb threat at the high school, which turned out to be a hoax.

Prior to that, the Hurricane Police Department received two separate calls reporting an active shooter inside Hurricane High School.

However, since it was a teacher preparation day and there were only a few students and staff at the school, the threat was not credible.
