A team from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Friday began a survey of the disputed Bhojsala/Kamal Mullah Masjid complex in the tribal-dominated Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh.
The ASI team, consisting of more than a dozen members, reached the complex in the morning. He was accompanied by senior local police and district administration officials.
“The investigation has started in Bhojsala. We have provided all logistical support to the ASI team required to carry out the activity. Manoj Kumar Singh, Inspector General of Police, Dal, told PTI ), adequate safety measures were taken during the exercise, and the town was peaceful.
Witnesses said a large police presence was deployed at the scene.
On March 11, the Madhya Pradesh High Court directed the ASI to conduct a “scientific survey” within six weeks of the Bhojshala complex, which Hindus believe is a medieval-era monument to goddess Vagdevi (Saraswati). The temple, known to the Muslim community as Mullah Kamal Mosque.
According to the ASI order issued on April 7, 2003, Hindus can worship at the Bhojsala complex every Tuesday, while Muslims can worship at the location on Fridays.
