Apple launches music, TV and device apps on Windows, breaking iTunes’ monopoly

Apple has finally launched Apple Music, Apple devices, and the Apple Music app for Windows PCs. The apps have been in preview for a while, but will eventually be released as stable apps on Windows, potentially ending iPhone users’ dependence on iTunes.

“In Windows 10 and later, you can access your music, video content, and Apple devices in their own dedicated apps: the Apple Music app, the Apple TV app, and the Apple Devices app. If your These applications are not supported on your computer, and you can continue to use iTunes for Windows,” Apple said.

As MacRumors discovered, these apps now offer Windows users a Mac-like experience, where all apps are standalone rather than part of the Mac.

The apps were released as previews in January 2023, and so far, Apple has been updating them since their release.

As the name suggests, the Apple Music app on Windows will allow users to access their iTunes library and even purchased content. Additionally, the Apple Music app also allows users to play movies and TV shows from iTunes.

Of course, if you download these apps on Windows, you can use Apple Music and TV streaming services. Apple also noted that “once you download the Apple Music app, Apple TV app, and Apple Devices app, you will not see any music or video content in iTunes.” In addition, users will not be able to “manually sync and manage your content using iTunes. iPhone or iPad. You can only use iTunes to access your podcasts and audiobooks.”
