The Allahabad High Court on Thursday reserved its order challenging the Varanasi district court’s decision to allow Hindu prayers in the cellar of the Jawapi Masjid.

Justice Rohit Ranjan Agrawal heard an appeal filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, which looks after the affairs of the mosque near the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, and reserved its order, committee lawyer SFA Naqvi said.

“The hearing of the matter has been completed and the court has reserved its order,” Naqvi added. The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee moved the high court on February 2, hours after the top court refused to hear its case against Wala Naxi District Court ordered the defense and requested it to file a lawsuit with the High Court.

The Varanasi district court ruled on January 31 that priests can offer prayers in front of the deity in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi mosque.
