Delhi Capitals assistant coach Praveen Amre believes the umpire’s decision should be respected in the controversy surrounding Sanju Samson’s dismissal during the IPL 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday. Samson, who was playing on 86, played a high shot straight down the ground off Mukesh Kumar, but Shai Hope completed the catch at long-on. However, he was very close to the boundary line and replays showed that there was a possibility that he had touched the boundary line before the catch was completed. The third umpire ruled in DC’s favor resulting in Samson getting involved in a heated argument with the on-field umpires over the matter.

There has been a lot of discussion regarding this matter but Amre believes that it was a close call and given the technology available, the decision of the umpires is the final decision.

“Some moments are very important in the IPL, and this was a decisive moment in the game. Sanju was batting very well. The way Hope judged that catch, we have to give credit to him. The umpires are there, and a lot of technique. We even thought from the dugout that he had (touched the boundary) but that happens in the game, and the umpire’s decision is the final decision, it was actually traveling to him after the game and he said that the ball was very , came very fast,” Amre told reporters.

DC kept their IPL 2024 playoff dreams alive with a crucial win over RR.

“The way our bowlers performed at the last end was the main positive and it was really good to see. We will try to learn from every game. Even when we lose or win, we will keep our heads down. Will keep going and keep moving forward. As DC captain Rishabh Pant said after the match, “Kuldeep always gave such a performance which was great to watch. It was close to a draw and at the same time we were thinking that if we could restrict them to 200 then it would be fair and that was the thought process.”
