About Microsoft Windows’ New Chief Pavan Davuluri

Pavan Kumar Davuluri is also a graduate of IIT Madras.

IIT Madras graduate Pavan Davuluri has been appointed as the new head of Windows and Surface at Microsoft. He succeeds Panos Panay, who left for Amazon last year. Mr. Davuluri, who previously ran the Surface division, now leads the Windows and Surface divisions.

“As part of this change, we are merging the Windows Experience and Windows + Devices teams together as a core part of the Experience + Devices (E+D) group,” said Rajesh Jha, director of experiences and devices at Microsoft. “This will enable us to take A holistic approach to building chips, systems, experiences and devices across Windows clients and the cloud to adapt to this AI era.”

“Pavan Davuluri will lead this team and continue to report to me. Shilpa Ranganathan and Jeff Johnson and their teams will report directly to Pavan. The Windows team will continue to work closely with the Microsoft AI team on AI, silicon and experience.” He said.

Who is Pawan Davuluri?

1. Pavan Kumar Davuluri is a graduate of IIT Madras. According to his LinkedIn profile, he completed graduate studies from the University of Maryland.

2. Mr. Davuluri began his career at Microsoft in 2001 as a Reliability Component Manager.

3. During his 23-year tenure at Microsoft, Mr. Davuluri held a variety of leadership roles spanning PC and Xbox hardware, Surface and Windows.

4. Pavan Davuluri will serve as corporate vice president of Windows and Chip and System Integration in 2021, responsible for overseeing Windows optimization efforts Arm-based devices.

5. Mr. Davuluri was recently assigned to lead the Windows engineering while assuming his existing responsibilities in Microsoft hardware. He will lead a dedicated team developing silicon systems for Microsoft’s Windows and Surface products.
