AAP protests seeking release of Arvind Kejriwal, BJP wants him to resign

1. All AAP MLAs and officials will gather at the party headquarters this morning and then march to the Prime Minister’s residence, officials said. Meanwhile, the BJP’s mega procession will be led by Delhi Chief Virendra Sachdeva from the Feroze Shah Kotla Stadium to the Delhi Secretariat.

2. A protest was also organized by the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday and was also attended by representatives of the Indian group. Addressing a joint press conference, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai said people were angry over the manner in which Kejriwal was arrested.

3. Delhi Congress president Arvinder Singh Lovely also hit out at the BJP. “Is this democracy? We don’t have a level playing field. You are arresting elected chief ministers and seizing the accounts of India’s oldest political party.” Our leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a fight to save democracy. Congress will not back down at this time,” he said.

4. Indian opposition groups have announced a large rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday to protest against Kejriwal’s arrest.

5. The BJP has been demanding Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation as chief minister following his arrest. The AAP, however, insisted that Mr Kejriwal would continue as Delhi chief minister even if it meant operating from behind bars.

6. The AAP leader has changed display images on social media platforms to show Mr Kerjwal in jail to express solidarity with its party leader.

Last week, the Delhi chief minister, in a message from jail read out by his wife Sunita Kejriwal, urged everyone to continue serving society and not to hate anyone, even from the ruling Indian people Party people. “There are multiple forces within and outside India that are weakening the country. No jail can keep him behind bars for long. I will come out soon and keep my promise,” the Delhi chief minister added in his message.

8. Arvind Kejriwal issued his first order at the emergency room lockup on Sunday. Delhi Minister Atish said: “I want to tell the BJP that you can arrest Arvind Kejriwal and put him in jail, but you cannot imprison his love and sense of responsibility towards the people of Delhi,” he added , the AAP leader may be jailed but “no work will stop”.

9. The Delhi High Court will hear Arvind Kejriwal’s plea on Wednesday, in which he has challenged his arrest and also challenged the lower court’s order granting seven-day custody to the ED.

10. The Aam Aadmi Party chief was arrested on Thursday and the next day Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court remanded him to the custody of the investigating agency till March 28. The central agency accused the AAP leader of being a “conspirator”. ED believes that the now-defunct policy provided high profit margins of nearly 185% to retailers and 12% to wholesalers.
