81 Indian students from Ukraine completed MBBS in Uzbekistan

Hyderabad:

210 students, including 81 from 10 Indian states, completed their MBBS degree amid the chaos of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

The students, originally enrolled at Zaporizhia State Medical University in Ukraine, with the help of Neo Consultancy and support from a coalition of government agencies and institutions, faced an uncertain future when the war broke out. They found refuge and opportunities in Uzbekistan to help them complete their studies.

As the war breaks out, the trapped students fear for their lives.

The New Institute of Medical Sciences, in coordination with the State Medical Council and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, launched a program to transfer students to Uzbekistan.

The program is recognized by the authorities of India and Uzbekistan and ensures students continue their medical education at Bukhara State Medical College.

Dr. Divya Raj Reddy, Managing Director, Neo Institute of Medical Sciences and India Representative, Ministry of Health, Uzbekistan, praised the collaborative efforts that made this feat possible.

She highlighted the critical role played by government agencies and institutions in dealing with the complex logistical and bureaucratic challenges posed by the conflict. Dr. Reddy highlighted the determination of the students who persisted with their studies despite facing turbulence and uncertainty.

Students must appear for the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) to practice medicine in India.

Unlike medical colleges in India, students studying in foreign universities are not trained in hospitals. Lack of patient exposure and clinical training prevents foreign medical students from acquiring the basic knowledge required to practice in India.

He is proud of the role Uzbekistan plays in supporting students on their journey to success and offers his heartfelt congratulations to all involved.
