Imphal:

Officials said 81.6 percent voting was recorded during re-polling at 11 polling stations in Interior Manipur Lok Sabha constituency on Monday.

An election official said no incident of disturbance or violence was reported at any polling station.

The official said, however, a complaint was received from the Congress claiming that an unidentified person had threatened the Congress agent over phone to vacate the polling booth at Moirangkampu Sajeb.

The decision for fresh polling was taken following a directive from the Election Commission, which declared polling conducted at these stations on April 19 invalid.

Incidents of firing, threats, destruction of EVMs at some polling stations and allegations of booth capturing were reported from conflict-hit Manipur, where 72 per cent voting was recorded in two Lok Sabha constituencies – Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur – on Friday.

Re-polling began at 7 am on Monday at all polling stations amid tight security arrangements and concluded at 5 pm.

“Voters were standing in queues since morning to exercise their franchise at all the 11 polling stations that were hit by riot-like situation on Friday. No disturbances or violence have been reported so far on Monday,” the election official said.
