Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh is the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from Nemanipur. Currently, he is the state education and law minister. Mr. Singh, 59, comes from a family with deep political roots. His father Thounaojam Chaoba Singh is a federal minister.

Mr. Singh is an MP from Nambol constituency in Bishnupur district and his father was instrumental in building the BJP’s base in Manipur.

His wife Dr. Romabai Lairenjam holds an MD degree from a top medical college in Madhya Pradesh and worked at RML Hospital in Delhi. She later joined local politics after being elected president of the Bishnupur Panchayat.
