MP: Local BJP leader, wife murdered by suspected robbers; SIT formed

A local BJP leader and his wife were murdered by suspected robbers at their residence in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district, police said on Saturday.

He said that the incident came to light on Saturday morning and a special investigation team (SIT) of police would also be formed to investigate.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Guru Prasad Parashar said, “Former sarpanch Ramniwas Kumawat and his wife Munnibai were murdered with a sharp weapon in their house in Piploda village on Dewas Road in Ujjain district.” ,

He said the crime may have been committed during an attempted robbery by unknown persons and further investigation is underway.

“The couple were the only persons at home when some people entered from the back side of their residence and killed the woman before killing the man,” he said.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Sachin Sharma said, “The incident came to light this morning and a forensic team has reached the spot and is investigating.” A SIT will be formed to investigate the matter.

No bullets were found at the scene and prima facie knife wound is believed to be the cause of death. But the real reason will be known from the post-mortem report, he said.

The household items are in disarray. The lockers are intact and the warehouse and storerooms are safe, he said, while the CCTV screens have been damaged.

Narwar police station in-charge Mukesh Izardar said that Kumawat has two sons, but none of them lives with him in the village.

Local people said that the deceased was associated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Ujjain is the home district of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav.
