Forbes’ 2024 list of the world’s billionaires has been released, with 200 Indians among them, up from 169 last year. The total wealth of Indians on this prestigious list stands at a staggering $954 billion. Data shows that the net worth of the 169 Indian billionaires on the list has increased significantly by 41% from last year’s US$675 billion.

According to Forbes’ 2024 World Billionaires List, Mukesh Ambani’s net worth soared from $83 billion in 2023 to $116 billion. That makes him the only Asian member of the prestigious $100 billion club. After Ambani, Gautam Adani is the second richest man in India with a net worth of $84 billion. India’s richest woman, Savitri Jindal, maintains her status with a net worth of $33.5 billion.

In 2024, we also saw some Indian billionaires make their way onto this esteemed list for the first time. Here are some of them:

Naresh Trehan (Net Worth – $1.4 billion)

Naresh Trehan is the founder of the Medanta hospital chain, which he founded in 2007 in Delhi. He is Medanta’s Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Cardiac Surgeon, overseeing a broad range of specialty services including cardiology, neurology, oncology and more than 30 other specialties. Medanta Hospitals has expanded to 5 hospitals in North India with over 2,700 beds.

Ramesh Kunhikannan (Net Worth – $1.2 billion)

Ramesh Kunhikannan is the founder and managing director of Mysuru-based electronics manufacturer Kaynes Technology. Founded in 1989, Kaynes specializes in printed circuit board assembly and operates eight factories across India. Kaynes supplies products to 350 customers in the automotive, aerospace and medical industries worldwide.

Renuka Jagtiani (Net Worth – $4.8 billion)

Renuka Jagtiani is Chairman and CEO of Landmark Group, a Dubai-based multinational consumer group founded by her husband, Micky Jagtiani (who died in May 2023). Under her leadership, Landmark Group has more than 50,000 employees.

Nikhil Merchant (Net Worth – $1 billion)

Nikhil Merchant is the Managing Director of Swan Energy, a company involved in oil and gas exploration, petrochemical trading, textiles and real estate. He acquired Swan Energy (formerly Swan Mills) in 1992. In 2021, he won a bid to acquire Reliance Naval Engineering, a shipyard formerly owned by billionaire Anil Ambani.

Vijay Agarwal (Net Worth – $1 billion)

Vijay Agarwal founded Action Construction Equipment, a construction equipment manufacturing company, in 1995. He serves as the company’s chairman and managing director, leading the production of hydraulic mobile cranes, tower cranes, loaders, tractors and agricultural harvesters. The company sells its construction equipment under the Ace brand.
