4 people suffocate to death at clean sewage treatment plant in Maharashtra

Virar (Maharashtra):

Four workers died of suffocation while carrying out cleaning activities at a sewage treatment plant in Virar, Maharashtra.

The victims were Shubham Parakar, 28, Amol Ghatale, 27, Nikhil Ghatale, 24, and Sagar Tendulkar, 29.

According to Anala police officials, the four workers ventured deep into the sewage treatment plant, which is about 25 to 30 feet deep, for cleaning. Unfortunately, they suffocated during the cleaning process.

After learning about the incident, locals immediately alerted the police and fire brigade. Emergency teams rushed to the scene and tried to rescue the workers.

However, by the time they were retrieved from the sewage treatment plant, it was too late. They were taken to hospital where the attending doctor declared them dead on arrival.

Anala police have registered a case of accidental death and started further investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the tragic incident.
