24-year-old Indian student shot dead in car in Canada

A 24-year-old student from Haryana was shot dead in an Audi car in Vancouver, Canada, by unknown assailants, police said. The incident occurred on April 12.

Vancouver police said in a statement that they found Chirag Antill dead in a car in the area after residents heard gunshots. So far, no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

Chirag Antil went to Vancouver from Sonipat in Haryana in 2022 on a study visa to pursue his MBA. He has earned his degree and is working.

His family appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to seek justice and arrange to take his body home for last rites.

Ronit, the victim’s brother, said he spoke to Chirag Antil on the morning of April 12. He said his brother seemed happy before he was shot.

“We are constantly on the phone with the police who informed us about this. But we were not told how the incident took place. We appeal to Prime Minister Modi and S Jaishankar to ensure justice as soon as possible,” he added.

Ronit said he and his mother have been in touch with friends of Chirag Antill.

The Consulate General of India in Vancouver posted on X to express its “deep condolences” on the death of Chirag Andil.

“We have learned with great sadness that Chirag Andil, an Indian citizen living in Vancouver, has been shot dead. We have contacted the relevant Canadian authorities to obtain more information in this regard,” the statement said.
