David Beckham attacks counterfeiters

David Beckham plans to put counterfeit traders who sell his designer items behind bars.

The former England great’s lawyers are targeting around 500 online sellers, most of them in Asia, over the trade in counterfeit goods in a $1 billion lawsuit.

DB Ventures, the company that monitors Star’s deals, has initiated two lawsuits in the US.

The cases were meant to crack down on counterfeiters selling counterfeit clothes, watches, perfumes, sunglasses, video games, toys, footballs and sports gear through platforms including Amazon, eBay Etsy, Teemu and Walmart.

DB Ventures is seeking $2 million (£1.6 million) from each of the 492 defendants named in the two lawsuits, and is backed by its rights management company Authentic Brands Group.

According to SunCourt documents obtained state that the act was being carried out in a “malicious” manner to defraud punters.

The trial judge has sought a temporary restraining order and asset freeze against the defendants.

An insider said, “Authentic Brands wants to put a stamp on this issue and stop people from selling David’s counterfeit products”.

He further added, “They are proud of the quality of their products and people are being cheated without their knowledge.”

“They think they have a good case.”
