Head is now third in the batting charts behind Virat Kohli (542) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (541) with his fourth half-century in this edition – he also has a century.

Abhishek rose to the task as he brought up his half-century in 19 balls after taking Hyderabad to 107 runs in the first six overs of the powerplay, when only two fielders are allowed outside the inner circle.

Hyderabad, which won the IPL in 2016 under David Warner, recorded their seventh win in 12 matches to give a perfect gift to the birthday boy and captain Pat Cummins, who turned 31 on Wednesday.

Abhishek hit the winning six which took Hyderabad to third place in the table of 10 teams with 14 points. After the crushing defeat, Lucknow is in sixth place.

The top four teams will advance to the playoffs with the final on May 26 in Chennai.

Seam bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar set up the win with an impressive bowling figures of 2-12 in his four overs and restricted Lucknow to 165-4 after electing to bat first.

Lucknow lost wickets regularly until Nicholas Pooran, who scored 48, and Ayush Badoni, who scored 55, put on an unbeaten partnership of 99 runs from 52 balls to boost the team’s score.

But this score proved too little for a team that posted record totals of 277 and 287 in this high-scoring edition of the T20 tournament.
