Tata Motors A new sports utility vehicle (SUV), previously showcased as Curvv, is being developed between the Nexon and Harrier.

The Indian carmaker recently applied for a design trademark for Curvv. The initial plan was to launch the Curvv as an electric vehicle (EV). However, Motorbeam reports that the trademark application appears to be for the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Curvv.

The vehicle in the trademark image has a front grille, which electric cars don’t have because they require less airflow than internal combustion engine cars. The rest of the design appears to be very similar to the concept showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo. You can call it a crossover, a coupe SUV, or even a modified sedan. This will be a very unique body style in this segment, usually seen on luxury cars such as the BMW X4, Mercedes GLC Coupe, Audi Q3 Sportback and others.

What to expect?

When the Curvv debuts, it will be the most affordable SUV coupe in the Indian market. Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Kia Seltos and Skoda Kushaq will be its competitors. There are no details yet on Curvv pricing.

The front profile features a large grille, top DLR and bumper-integrated headlights. The side profile features large wheel arches and black cladding on the lower half of the body. The ORVM is mounted on the door, not the pillar. Another interesting detail is the new recessed door handles, which will be seen on a Tata car for the first time. The interior is expected to be based on the Nexon.

The Tata Cruvv will come with a new set of turbocharged petrol engines that will debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. Available in two sizes: 1.2L and 1.5L. The 1.2-litre engine produces 123 bhp at 5,000 rpm and 225 Nm of peak torque at 1,700-3,500 rpm. The 1.5-litre engine produces 168 bhp at 5,000 rpm and peak torque of 280 Nm at 2,000-3,500 rpm. Additionally, transmission options are currently unknown.

In addition to the petrol engine, the Curvv will also be available with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The Nexon is also powered by the same engine. Output is 260 Nm and 113 bhp. It can be connected to a 6-speed AMT or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
