2-month-old found on Delhi railway tracks, reunited with parents

After due legal process, the baby has been reunited with his family

New Delhi:

Delhi Police has reunited a two-month-old child who was abandoned on the railway tracks near Shakur Basti railway station with his family, officials said on Monday.

The couple lost the child while they were traveling from Gwalior to their home in Agra via Delhi, they added.

They said the baby had been reunited with his family after due legal process.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Railway) KPS Malhotra said the baby was found abandoned on the railway tracks on April 9.

Malhotra said an FIR was lodged under Section 317 (Exposure and abandonment of child below 12 years of age by parent or caregiver) and investigation was initiated.

There were no CCTV cameras in the area where the child was abandoned, the official said, adding that crime and forensic teams also examined the location to look for clues about the baby.

“The team investigating the matter shared the baby’s photos and other details with all DCPs, SSPs across the country and all SHOs in Delhi through social media,” the DCP said, adding that the information was also uploaded on ZIP Net.

During the investigation, children’s centers were also checked to confirm if any inquiries had been made about the infants and were followed up on a daily basis.

“Our team was contacted by Anil Kumar Rajavat from Agra who told us that he had seen the baby’s photos and details circulating on the WhatsApp group,” the DCP said.

Rajawat told police that he was the baby’s father. The official said that he came to Delhi with his wife on April 13 and after meeting him, they confirmed that the baby was their son.

The man said the child got lost in the crowd at the railway station as they were traveling from Gwalior to Agra.

He added that the baby was handed over to the parents after due legal process.
