New Delhi:

Between October and December 2023, YouTube removed more than 2.25 million videos in India for violating community guidelines, with the country leading the list in terms of the number of video removals, ahead of countries such as the United States and Russia.

According to YouTube’s video removal data by country of upload, Singapore ranks second with 1,243,871 video removals and the United States (788,354) ranks third.

Indonesia ranked fourth (770,157), while Russia had 516,629 video removals, according to YouTube’s Community Guidelines Enforcement Report, which provides global data on the flags YouTube receives and how the Google-owned platform enforces policies.

Globally, YouTube removed more than 9 million videos for violating community standards during this period (Q4 2023). More than 96% of videos are tagged in the first place by machines rather than humans.

These videos were removed for violating our Community Guidelines for harmful or dangerous content, child safety, violent or graphic content, nudity and sexual content, misinformation, and more.

The latest report shows that between October and December 2023, more than 2.25 million videos (2,254,902) were removed in India for violating YouTube Community Guidelines. India ranks first among 30 countries in video removal.

As of the quarter ending December 2023, 20.5 million (20,592,341) channels worldwide were removed by YouTube for violating Community Guidelines.

The report explains that when a channel is terminated, all of its videos are deleted. The number of such videos removed due to channel-level termination during this period was 95.5 million (95,534,236).

“If a YouTube channel receives three Community Guidelines strikes within 90 days, experiences one instance of egregious abuse (such as predatory behavior), or is determined to be in complete violation of our Guidelines (as is often the case with spam), the channel account will be terminated),” YouTube said.

The Google-owned video streaming platform said it is working hard to maintain a safe and vibrant community.

“We have Community Guidelines that set out rules for behavior that is not allowed on YouTube,” it said.

For example, it does not allow pornography, incitement to violence, harassment or hate speech. YouTube says it relies on a combination of people and technology to flag inappropriate content and enforce these guidelines.Reports can come from automated reporting systems, members of the Priority Flagler program, or users within the broader YouTube community
