If you’re reading this article, chances are you use YouTube regularly to watch videos – whether for fun or work. In this case, you must be familiar with YouTube’s playback speed feature. People have different preferences when allocating their time for leisure or work. But with that in mind, have you ever wondered how someone as busy as Google CEO Sundar Pichai manages to watch videos on the platform?

Well, we finally have the answer. Sundar Pichai quotes popular tech YouTuber Marques Brownlee (also known as MKBHD) as saying that he typically uses 1X for content he likes, but for everything else, he’ll resort to the faster option. “I’m curious, I usually do 1x for things I enjoy and/or need to process in depth, but do do it faster on other things,” Pichai posted on X, citing Brownlee’s poll asking users about their What speed do you like.

For those unfamiliar, YouTube lets you play content at 0.25x, 0.5x, 0.75x, 1x, 1.25x, 1.5x, or even 2x speed. Depending on the content provided, the playback speed of different content may vary.

YouTube itself has revealed in the past that when people watch content on big screens like TVs and game consoles, they spend most of their time watching at 1X speed, which is the normal speed. On mobile devices, they spent the most time watching content at 2x and 1.5x speeds. This does make sense considering that when you’re watching on a mobile device, you’re more likely to be out and about or in a hurry than when you’re relaxing and watching something on a larger screen like a TV.
