13 arrested after clash between two groups near Mumbai during Ram Mandir rally

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday said at least 13 people were arrested for the alleged attack on a group of people taking out a vehicle rally in Mira Bhayandar area adjacent to Mumbai on the eve of the idol consecration of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. Has gone.

The deputy CM said there would be “zero tolerance” against anyone trying to disturb the law and order situation in the state.

“Police have been directed to take strict action against the culprits. So far, 13 people have been arrested and detailed analysis of CCTV footage is underway to identify and arrest others involved. “There will be zero tolerance against anyone who tries to take the law into their own hands and disturb the law and order situation in Maharashtra”, Fadnavis said in a post on Twitter.

A clash broke out between members of two communities during a vehicle rally in Naya Nagar area around 10:30 pm on Sunday night, with several people in three cars and several motorcycles raising slogans praising Lord Ram.

However, when some of them burst crackers, a group of people came out of their homes and beat the rally participants with sticks and also attacked their vehicles, a police officer said.

“Police immediately intervened and the attackers were dispersed. Heavy police deployment was seen in the area to maintain law and order and prevent any further violence. A company of Riot Control Police (RCP) is also at the spot.”

He said that an FIR has been registered against the attackers in Naya Nagar police under section 307 of the Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder) and other crimes.

A video of the incident has also gone viral on social media.

Meanwhile, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik on Monday met Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissioner Madhukar Pandey and demanded formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Sarnaik said that if the people involved in the procession were not immediately arrested, Shiv Sena would protest on January 25.
