Yemen's Houthis say 17 operatives killed in U.S. airstrike

Houthis have been targeting shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden

A total of 17 Houthi militants were killed in U.S. airstrikes, the Iran-backed Yemeni rebel group said through its state media on Saturday after holding a public funeral in the capital Sanaa.

“Today, in a solemn funeral procession, the remains of some national martyrs and martyrs of the armed and security forces who died in the aggressive bombing by the United States and Britain were carried through Sanaa,” Houthi official media said, naming their names.

The United States confirmed on Thursday that the Houthis were preparing to launch missiles at commercial shipping and U.S. warships in the Red Sea, and the U.S. military carried out multiple attacks on missile launchers.

Iran-backed rebels, who control much of Yemen’s war-torn region, including the port of Hodeidah, have been targeting shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in what they say is an effort to support Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Israel-Hamas War.

U.S. and British troops launched strikes against the Houthis, who later declared that the interests of both countries were also legitimate targets.
