X banned over 200,000 accounts in India for policy violations

Elon Musk-led X Corp has set a new precedent in India by banning a staggering 212,627 accounts in a month, marking a crackdown on content that promotes child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity.

The Weibo platform also shut down 1,235 accounts on the country’s platform for promoting terrorism.

X stated that it has implemented a number of measures related to reducing child sexual exploitation and terrorism.

In its monthly report, X said it received 5,158 complaints from users in India through its grievance redressal mechanism during the same time period.

The highest number of complaints from India were ban circumvention (3,074 cases), followed by sensitive adult content (953 cases), hateful conduct (412 cases) and abuse/harassment (359 cases).

Additionally, X handled 86 account suspension appeals.

“After reviewing the circumstances, we have reversed the suspension on seven of the accounts. The remaining reported accounts remain suspended,” the company said.

It added: “During the reporting period, we received 29 requests related to general issues with the account.”
