'Those words should be taken back': BJP MP Hema Malini on Congress leader's actor remarks

Hema Malini said, “But Supriya ji’s comments about her were not good.”

Mathura:

Congress spokesperson Supriya Temple must retract her remarks about Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP and actor Hema Malini said on Tuesday, joining the Opposition leader’s increasingly heated comments on Mandi Controversy, the ‘Queen’ star is contesting in the Lok Sabha elections.

The two-time Mathura MP described Ms Ranaut as a bold and outspoken woman and said she was “perfectly suited for politics”.

“It is wrong to make such comments about women when you are a woman yourself,” Hema Malini told news agency PTI in an exclusive interview here.

After Shrinate sparked a massive controversy by posting derogatory remarks against Ms. Ranaut and Mandi on her social media account, she came out to strongly support the actor.

“Just because she comes from films…she is an entertainer, she has proven herself as a good actor, she has won many awards. She is very bold and outspoken. She is involved in everything. She is very suitable for politics,” she said .

Hema Malini also congratulated the four-time National Award-winning actor, who is making her political debut in her birthplace, Mandi.

“She is a fighter and she will fight back,” the 75-year-old said.

“But Supriya’s comment lucky It wasn’t nice to target her. She should have some dignity. She should take back her words,” she added.

The Congress party kicked off a proverbial firestorm after its leaders Shrinate and HS Ahir posted derogatory remarks about Ranaut and Mandi on their social media accounts.

Ms. Shrinate defended herself on Monday, saying her Facebook and Instagram accounts were accessible to a number of people, including one who made inappropriate posts. She also said she had deleted the post and would take action against parody accounts using her name.

Asked whether film celebrities dabbling in politics were soft targets, Hema Malini said that might be the case but Ms Ranaut was “very determined”.

The actor-politician, who is seeking a third term from Mathura in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, said Ms Ranaut would do well as a potential leader of Mandi.

“She has this ability and is interested in politics. As entertainers, we often have a much better vision of a place than a lot of people do,” she said.
