The Kerala police on Saturday registered a case against a woman professor at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Calicut for posting a comment on Facebook expressing pride in Nathuram Godse’s assassination of Mahatma Gandhi and thus “saving India” “.

Various student organizations, including SFI, KSU and MSF, lodged multiple complaints against Professor A Shaija at several police stations in the city, following which an FIR was registered against her.

IPC section 153 (wanton provocation with intent to cause disorder) was invoked against the professor.

Kunnamangalam and Nadakkavu police stations are among the police stations where complaints were lodged against her.

On January 30, Shaija, a senior faculty member of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at NIT, posted a comment on Facebook saying, “Proud of Godse for saving India.”

She commented on a post by lawyer Krishna Raj, who posted a photo of Godse saying Hindu Mahasabha activist Nathuram Vinayak Godse) is a hero to many in India.

A senior police officer from the district told PTI that a case has been registered against the professor and investigation has begun.

However, as the matter became controversial, the professor deleted her comments.

NIT has been surrounded by controversies over the past few weeks after a section of students celebrated the inauguration of Rama Temple in Ayodhya on January 22.

According to reports, a student named Vyshakh, who protested against the celebrations, was suspended from the college following a brawl between two sections of students.

Proceedings against Vyshakh were stayed on February 2 after Vyshakh filed a complaint with the agency’s appellate body.
