One climber died after falling from an “escalator”, while another suffered serious injuries, cnn informed of.

Two rope climbers were climbing Mount Johnson in Alaska by escalator route, which is a “steep and technical alpine climb on the peak’s southeast face” that includes “a mixture of steep rock, snow and ice.”

Another climbing group was on the same route when they saw two climbers fall 1,000 feet.

They immediately alerted the Alaska Regional Communications Center before they came down to find them.

Upon reaching them, they learned that one climber, whose name has not been released, had died, while another climber had suffered “severe traumatic injuries”.

“Respondents dug a snow cave and cared for the surviving climber’s injuries throughout the night,” said a press release from Alaska’s Denali National Park.

The next morning, the pilot of the Denali high-altitude rescue helicopter and two mountaineering rangers came to their rescue. A ranger was lowered into the group of climbers, and the injured patient was carried to a flat glacier and loaded into a helicopter.

The injured patient is undergoing treatment.

Later the helicopter squad returned to find the body of the dead climber, however, they had to turn back due to bad weather.
