Injury-prone India batsman Shreyas Iyer suffered another back injury as Mumbai defeated Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy final on Thursday. Iyer had to miss the final stages of the title race due to a serious back injury, which seems to put his participation in the upcoming 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) with Kolkata Knight Riders in jeopardy. But now, the Mumbai side’s team manager in charge of the Ranji Trophy campaign has confirmed that Iyer will be fit for the start of the IPL and will join the team’s pre-season camp.
“There is no reason to worry; he is fine and will leave for Kolkata in two days for the IPL preliminaries training camp,” Mumbai team manager Bhushan Patil said. Comments Comments.
Iyer, who scored 95 off 111 balls with 10 fours and three sixes, underwent two live treatments here for over three hours on the third day of the final against Vidarbha.
Asked about Iyer’s absence from the field on the final day, a source from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) told the Press Trust of India news agency: “Iyer is injured.”
“He will have to seek medical advice and he may go to the hospital on March 16.” After the fourth day of the game, team sources claimed that Iyer has recovered from the problem and will return to the field on the final day, but it is not the truth.
Iyer remained in the dressing room, wearing his Mumbai training jersey and only made his first appearance as the domestic giants clinched their 42nd title with a 169-run win on Thursday.
There has been no official statement from Iyer or the Kolkata Knight Riders on the player’s fitness and playing time.
