The T20 World Cup is just around the corner and the stakes are high as far as the Indian team is concerned, with many players competing for a spot in the team. However, the national selection committee is unlikely to select a rookie IPL performer for the showpiece event in the US. Other players like Ryan Parag (RR), Mayank Yadav (LSG), Abhishek Sharma (SRH) have enjoyed a successful season in the IPL so far. But, according to a report by news agency PTI, the selectors will not be putting rookie players to the test in a “high-stakes” tournament like the T20 World Cup.

With India set to play two white-ball series against Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka after the T20 World Cup, Parag, Mayank and other IPL performers could be considered for selection during the bilateral matches.

“The likes of Ryan Parag, Mayank Yadav, Abhishek Sharma and Harshit Rana have all performed well but it is understood that the selection committee would like to follow the process of easing them through bilateral cricket rather than testing them at a higher level. -Bet on World T20 game,” the report read.

Parag is the second highest run scorer in IPL so far after Virat Kohli (361). The RR all-rounder has scored 318 runs in seven matches at an average of over 63.

Similarly, Abhishek has also made a great start to the season by scoring more than 200 in the powerplay. Mayank, on the other hand, has played just two games, but his raw pace has sparked debate over his selection.

The report also states that SRH seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy is another player whom the BCCI is keeping a close eye on.

The report further said, “Nitish Reddy, who is a seam bowling all-rounder and was part of the India Emerging team that toured Sri Lanka last year, may also follow the same path.”

It will be interesting to see if BCCI arranges to have players like Mayank Yadav, Harshit Rana or Akash Madhwal as net bowlers, which will also give them good performances.
