Young Liu, CEO of contract manufacturer Foxconn, has been awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third highest civilian award. He is the only foreigner to be awarded the Padma Bhushan this year. Liu is a recognized entrepreneur and innovator with over four decades of industry experience.

For the year 2024, the President has approved the conferment of 132 Padma awards, including 2 doubles cases (in a doubles case, the award is counted as one), on the eve of the 75th Republic Day.

Young Liu is the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), the world’s largest electronics manufacturer and leading global science and technology solutions provider.

He oversees Foxconn’s global operations, which include more than one million employees in 24 countries/territories and revenues exceeding $206 billion in 2021.

As chairman, he sets and coordinates the company’s direction and strategies, known as the 3+3 strategy – three key industries and three key technologies. These three industries are electric vehicles, digital health and robotics. The three major technologies are artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and next generation communication technologies.

Liu founded three companies: Young Micro Systems, a motherboard company, in 1988; Northbridge and southbridge IC design company focusing on PC chipsets, ITE Tech in 1995; and ITeX, an ADSL IC design company, in 1997. Young Micro Systems merged with Foxconn in 1994, and ITeX was successfully listed on NASDAQ in 2001.

Liu joined Foxconn in 2007 as a special assistant to the founder. He rose through the ranks and, in 2019, was appointed Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of Hon Hai Technology Group and Chairman of Foxsemicon Integrated Technology Inc.

In 2020, he became the Chairman of Foxtron Vehicle Technologies Co., Ltd. In 2022, he took on the role of President of XSemi Corporation. Currently, Mr. Liu is the convener of the Supervisory Committee of the Taiwan Electrical and Electronic Manufacturers Association and a director of the Taiwan Transportation Vehicle Manufacturers Association.

Liu earned an MS degree in computer engineering from the University of Southern California in 1986 and a BS degree in electrophysics from National Chiao Tung University in Taiwan in 1978.

In July 2023, Young Louis met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, where he attended the Semicon India 2023 conference.

Padma Award – one of the highest civilian awards in the country, is awarded in three categories, namely Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. Awards are given in various disciplines/fields of activities, such as- Arts, Social Work, Public Affairs, Science and Engineering, Trade and Industry, Medicine, Literature and Education, Sports, Civil Services, etc.
