WhatsApp locks chat privacy feature

To improve users’ privacy preferences, WhatsApp has introduced a lock chat feature that hides contacts behind a password. This adds an extra layer of security to sensitive conversations. However, locked chat content can be easily accessed on other linked devices, which creates major privacy concerns. Now, according to a report by WaBetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta is rumored to be testing the feature that will allow users to lock chats on all linked devices, not just the main device.

To access a locked chat in another linked device, go to the chat lock settings from your main device and first create a password to lock the chat. Now just use the code on your other devices’ new privacy feature settings. The feature is expected to be rolled out in a future update and is currently being tested in the WhatsApp Beta of Android 2.24.8.4 update.

Android Authority also reports that WhatsApp is working on a new status feature that will allow users to mention contacts privately in their status posts. The feature, spotted in iOS WhatsApp Beta, will privately notify contacts that they have been mentioned in a shared status. However, the mention is expected to remain hidden and visible only to contacts who have been added to the story. This feature is very similar to the one we use for Instagram Stories.
