The Indian Premier League (IPL) will introduce a smart replay system from Friday to enable quick, accurate decision-making and less stringent processes in the upcoming season, ESPNcricinfo reported. According to ESPNcricinfo, eight Hawk-Eye high-speed cameras are spread across the ground and two Hawk-Eye operators will sit in the same room with the TV referee and provide him with the images they obtain as part of the intelligent replay system. Under the new arrangement, the Director of Television Broadcasts – who has until now served as the liaison between Hawkeye operators and third umpires – will not be involved. It is said that thanks to the intelligent replay system, TV referees will be able to see more visuals than in the past, including split-screen images. Consider a fielder on the boundary rope taking an overhead catch in mid-air. Previously, broadcasters were unable to split the screen to show a fielder’s feet and hands at the moment of a catch.

With the new setup, synchronized video of the moment a foot touches or avoids the rope can be displayed on a split screen and the referee can announce the catch or release of the ball.

Likewise, if a pitch results in four runs, the split screen can now show whether the batter is delivering the ball when the fielder releases the ball. Now that Hawkeye operators have a picture of the precise moment of the throw and the position of the batsman at the same moment, they can provide that information to the TV umpires (taking the 2019 World Cup final as a specific use case). Previously, broadcasters had not been able to use broadcast cameras and resources to combine the two photos, which was the main reason TV referees did not receive such a clear visual.

Cricket’s ‘Super Bowl’ of the Indian Premier League returns this week with a blockbuster South India derby between defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at their respective home grounds, MA Chidambaram Stadium. Opener Friday.

The schedule till April 7 has been announced now and the rest of the schedule will be announced later as the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls are yet to be notified.

Fans, meanwhile, will be doubly delighted as they will witness four doubleheaders scheduled during this time. IPL 2022 champions and last year’s runners-up Gujarat Titans (GT) and five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) locked horns in an exciting showdown in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The game will receive a lot of attention from pundits and fans as former GT captain Hardik Pandya makes a shock move to his former team MI. Pandya’s move, which replaced MI’s long-time captain Rohit Sharma, has created uproar among the IPL fraternity. On the same day, Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Supergiants will start their campaign in Jaipur.

Delhi Capitals will play CSK and Kolkata Knight Riders at home in Vizag on March 31 and April 3 respectively.

In a first-ever double-header, Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals will begin their clash in Mohali on March 23, while two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders will begin their clash in Kolkata.
