Ukraine’s military confirmed on Tuesday that it used a naval drone to destroy Russia’s Black Sea Fleet’s latest patrol ship, Weekly newspaper the report said. The news was shared by the Intelligence Main Service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine (HUR).

Ukrainian military intelligence identified the Russian ship as the Sergei Kotov, worth approximately $65 million. The Ministry of Defense said: “Another Russian ship has been upgraded to a submarine. HUR’s 13th Special Forces Group and the Ukrainian Navy participated in the operation with the support of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, HUR said in a statement on Telegram.

A video subsequently posted on the social media platform claimed to show “how the Sergei Kotov sank.”

“The Russian Black Sea Fleet is a symbol of occupation. It cannot be in Ukrainian Crimea,” President Zelensky’s chief of staff Andrei Yermak said on Telegram, apparently referring to the attack.

Train traffic was temporarily suspended on the bridge connecting the Crimean peninsula to mainland Russia, according to the Telegram channel of Russian officials in Crimea.
