A weekend treat turned into a nightmare for dozens of people at Fateh Kachori in Delhi’s Kashmir Gate area when a speeding Mercedes SUV plowed into the popular food joint, killing six people Injuried.
CCTV cameras inside the restaurant captured the shocking incident which took place around 3pm on Sunday. The video shows business as usual for a few seconds. Then all the customers looked in one direction in panic. Before they could react or get out of the way, the SUV barreled into the store, throwing tables and people everywhere and crashing into a wall.
As the shaking subsided, the SUV backed off the wall and people began searching for the family. In the center of the picture is a middle-aged man who came to the bar with his wife. CCTV footage captured him feeling helpless as he failed to find a partner. At one point, he knelt down and started looking under the car.
Then, to his relief, his wife appeared from behind. As he held her hand, she made a gesture that meant she was okay. After a while, the two hugged each other and thanked their stars for their narrow escape.
Another man was on the hood of the car and appeared to have suffered serious leg injuries. He managed to get back on his feet before others stepped in to help him out of the store.
According to police, the car was driven by a 36-year-old lawyer. When police reached Noida, Parag Maini was found at the spot. He was arrested for reckless driving and the SUV was impounded. Police said a preliminary medical examination of the driver found he was not intoxicated, but a blood sample was taken for further analysis. Maini’s wife was also in the car when the accident occurred.
The injured have been sent to a nearby hospital and further investigation is underway, police said.
