US President Joe Biden has mocked his rival and presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump by issuing a message about the 2024 total solar eclipse, reminding people to be safe.

In a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), the president stood in the same spot that Trump was during the solar eclipse seven years ago.

Trump is the only president to blindly view a solar eclipse without wearing eclipse glasses — although they are free in some places.

“The solar eclipse is something to behold,” Biden said in a message posted on the president’s official X account.

“But don’t be silly, guys – use caution and wear safety glasses.”

Experts warn that looking directly at the sun when the moon blocks it is dangerous and could cause permanent damage to your eyes. That’s why authorities are also distributing free eclipse glasses to the masses.

However, experts say it has no side effects on people who watch it, not even pregnant women.

Trump is not the only one trying this trick.

Nia Payne, 26, saw the sun for about six seconds as it passed over Staten Island, New York. It’s now permanently seared into her retinas.

A total solar eclipse will move across North America shortly today, passing through Mexico, the United States and Canada.
