Video: ‘Azadi’ slogan raised during pro-Palestinian protest at Columbia University

Columbia University has become a hotbed of pro-Palestinian protests in New York City. Protests at the Ivy League university continue despite 108 demonstrators being arrested on campus earlier this week.

Now, a video has surfaced on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showing the slogan “azadi” (freedom) being raised on the Columbia University campus.

The undated video, posted on X by the group Documenting Jew Hate on Campus, shows a woman chanting slogans in Hindi for a Free Palestine while her fellow protesters chant “Azadi” in unison.

“What do we want, freedom for Palestine… freedom… do we desire freedom… it is our right, freedom.… (What do we want…freedom…freedom for Palestine…we will take this freedom, it is our right…),” the woman can be heard shouting in the video, The iconic backdrop shown in the video is the Low Memorial Library.

The woman, who was wearing a bindi and appeared to be of Indian origin, also held up the “Biden Sunle, Azadi…Netanyahu Sunle, Azadi…Modi Sunle, Azadi“.

India Today was unable to verify the date and authenticity of the video.

similar ‘AzadiThe slogan has been raised several times at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, most notably at an event organized by left-leaning students in 2016 to mark the anniversary of Afzal Guru’s execution. Guru is a Kashmiri separatist convicted of involvement in the 2001 parliament attack.

At least early thursday 108 protesters arrested on campus Columbia University President Nemat Minoush Shafiq authorized the New York Police Department to clear their encampments.

Several students involved in the protest also said they were suspended from classes at Columbia University’s Barnard College.

Among those protesters was Isra Hirsi, the daughter of controversial Democratic leader Ilhan Omar.
