'Very sad': PM Modi condoles death of 9 people killed in Bihar road accident

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over the death of nine people in a road accident in Bihar’s Lakhisarai district.

At least nine people returning from a wedding ceremony were killed and five others injured in a head-on collision between a truck and a tempo near Biharaura village on the Lakhisarai-Sikandra main road in the early hours, police said.

“The road accident that took place in Lakhisarai, Bihar is very sad. My condolences to the people who lost their loved ones in this accident. I also wish for the speedy recovery of all the injured. The local administration, under the supervision of the state government, is providing all possible assistance to the victims. Engaged in providing assistance,” the PMO posted on Twitter.

Those killed include Veer Paswan, Vikas Kumar, Vijay Kumar, Dibana Paswan, Amit Kumar, Monu Kumar, Kisan Kumar and Manoj Goswami, most of whom are residents of Munger.

Speaking to PTI, Lakhisarai SP Pankaj Kumar said, “The accident occurred around 3 am on the Lakhisarai-Sikandra main road. Nine people died on the spot, while several others were injured. All the injured have been admitted to hospital.” Taken to the nearest government hospital.”

The victims were returning from a wedding ceremony when the accident occurred, he said, adding that the driver of the truck fled from the spot.

“The truck has been seized by the police and investigation is underway,” the SP said.
